Most significant work achievement in the past year: This marks the fifth year of the multifamily development and management company I started with long-time partner, Tom Johnston, and my father, Wendell Franklin. Together with several strategic partners, we’ve grown our portfolio three-fold, with over 14,000 units under management and are expanding into our seventh state in June. Our development team has $100 million worth of construction under way in Virginia Beach. We’ve partnered with my alma mater, Virginia Wesleyan University, to build Coastal 61, a 248-unit luxury apartment community and we’re also under construction on a 264-unit affordable housing community in the Witchduck corridor, Standard Apartments. We’ve partnered with the city to build the infrastructure to support future growth in the area.
Most significant board service: I’ve served as chairman of the board at Norfolk Collegiate, my alma mater, for the last four years.
Volunteer work: I am the vice chair of the Virginia Gentlemen Foundation. Our most recent project, Camp Grom, is now fully funded and we’re looking forward to an early June opening.
