Last week, leaders of The Franklin Johnston Group joined together in Corolla, North Carolina, for a three day retreat of team building, book reviews, and personality tests. Most importantly, our team worked diligently to create the core values and mission statement which encompass the heart of our business.
Day one was jam packed with great activities. We started off learning about individual personalities and how we communicate with one another. Based on our survey results, we were placed into one of four categories that best describe our character traits. This survey is called Management by Strengths and it was impressive just how accurate the results were. The categories are color coded and will assist each of us in the best ways to communicate and interact with each other, both personally and professionally. Next on the agenda was a group discussion on the book Fish! and how it has impacted our company, including the onsite teams. We watched a short Fish! video and briefly discussed our emotions. We also had a group discussion on the book Good to Great. We covered the highlights of the book and discussed ways we would take our company to the next level of greatness. It was neat to see a room full of talented individuals full of passion for our company and committed to working together to make us great.
Day two was filled with great teamwork and group discussions as we all talked about the passion of our business and turned this discussion into concrete core values and a mission statement that will be the basis of everything we do. We were shown a raw version of our company video that shows the heart and soul of why we do what we do each day. Creating our values was a rewarding experience and while only a small portion of our company was present, we made sure to be a voice for all employees in the ideas we shared. In the weeks to come Taylor will be introducing all employees to our core values and mission statement.
Day three we wrapped up our trip by sending everyone off for safe travels back home. As we all departed, there was a sense of accomplishment and ownership that we made history with our company in those few short days. The core values and mission statement that we created embodies everything The Franklin Johnston Group is, and stands for. We wanted to end this story with a few pictures of our team at the retreat. Enjoy!
