The Franklin Johnston Group Hosts “TFJG Operation School Supply” To Support Students
The Annual Program Supports a Record Number of Children in 2019
Virginia Beach, VA–August 20, 2019 –The Franklin Johnston Group will send more than 3,000 students back to school with the supplies needed for a successful 2019-2020 school year.
Wendell Franklin, CEO of The Franklin Johnston Group (TFJG), started TFJG Operation School Supplies more than thirteen years ago so students living in The Franklin Johnston Group’s apartment communities could start the school year prepared. The program now expands outside of Franklin Johnston owned properties. This year, 7 other owner groups participated as well, allowing TFJG to extend the program to include additional apartment communities they manage. The already successful program grew by 50% this year, supporting 41 apartment communities in Hampton Roads, three in Atlanta and two in North Carolina.
“It is exciting that together with our owners were able to reach more children this year, than ever before.” said Chief Operating Officer, Taylor Franklin. “The thought that we are providing the tools for success to over three thousand children is really something great.”
The preparation for Operation School Supply begins each year in the month of July. Team members from The Franklin Johnston Group’s apartment communities shop for supplies during Tax Free Weekend (August 2-4th). Before the shopping spree begins, the Franklin Johnston communities research supply lists from local schools that service their surrounding area to ensure each student has the items required for the first day.
Once the supplies have been purchased, each participating Franklin Johnston Group community hosts a back-to-school kickoff event to pass out the supplies to the families living in their communities.
“I couldn’t be prouder that this tradition has continued and grown as much as it has,” said Wendell Franklin. “Our passion is our people and that not only applies to The Franklin Johnston Group family, but to our residents and their family members as well.”
The Franklin Johnston Group will donate any supplies remaining after the program has ended on August 31st to local elementary and middle schools.
